About
The network aims to bring together researchers and students who are interested in the linguistics of the languages of Southern Africa on a virtual platform that we hope will grow broader over time (taking inspiration from the Rift Valley Network and similar initiatives). For now, we are planning to host one online seminar talk each month, approximately during the South African teaching semesters.
We welcome content on all languages and varieties used in the region (signed and spoken, from any family or isolate). Our approach to linguistics is based on the SAMWOP one, and includes theoretical and descriptive linguistics, as well as more data-oriented sociolinguistics and corpus linguistics. The webinar is meant to open up spaces for interactions like those we normally have at SAMWOP, SALALS and other events to happen throughout the year.
Talks are free and open to all! Please invite any interested students and colleagues.
